Osteopathy

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy utilizes manual assessment and treatment of joints and soft tissues guided by the principles set forth by its founder, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners work through all joints and soft tissues assessing for any asymmetries, and then align the muscles, ligaments, and bones, to allow the body to self heal and self regulate.

Anatomy and physiology are the foundation for treatment and the goal is to restore proper body mechanics, nerve impulses, and the circulation of blood and lymphatics.

What does an osteopathic treatment look like?

Treatments are not time based, they are unique to each individual and are generally 20-25 minutes in length. Treatment is tailored to each patient in order to treat the true cause of dysfunction. Osteopathic treatment is based on objective palpatory findings, and does not chase pain or symptoms.

Upon your initial assessment and treatment we will go over an in depth review of your health history and the concerns you are currently experiencing. Following your health history intake, manual assessment and treatment will take place which will include osteopathic techniques and subtle manipulations to correct your body’s dysfunctions. At the end of your initial visit a treatment plan will be developed based on your unique and specific needs.

Please wear comfortable loose clothing that will not restrict your movement during treatment.

If you have any questions regarding assessment, treatment, or manual osteopathy in general please do not hesitate to contact us.
